The Dundee Chess Club surprised two strong Glasgow teams - University and Polytechnic - on its way to the final of the Scottish Club Championship for the Richardson Cup. Although the cup was retained in the West the final was very closely contested with the outcome uncertain until the last half hour of play when blunders by Borwell and Abayasekera cost Dundee the match.
