Richardson Cup 1955

Glasgow Chess Club found it unexpectedly easy on Saturday to retain the Richardson Cup, confined to the eight leading clubs in Scotland. Against Bohemian in the final round they had before the half-time tea interval four quick wins, on boards 3, 4, 5, and 6, which decided the match.

At the later session the top board game between Fairhurst and Anderson, the Scottish Champion, was won for Glasgow by Fairhurst with a fine sacrificial attack against a Slav defence. Glasgow also won on Board 2, and Bohemian won on Board 7, which made the final result 6-1 for Glasgow.

The match was played in Glasgow CC rooms at 189 Pitt Street.
