| Scottish Calendar of Events | FIDE International Calendar | ECF Calendar | Northumberland Events | Adverts for Forthcoming Tournaments
.
Is your event listed in the official Chess Scotland Calendar of Events? The basic data required is: 1) The name of the event, 2) When the event takes place, 3) The venue, 4) The name and contact details of the organiser. Please send the information to calendar@chessscotland.com
Please remember that only events (Adult or Junior) which appear in the official CS Calendar can be included in the Grand Prix.
ADVERTS: An advert on the ChessScotland website is the simplest way to maximise publicity for your event. Please send a copy of the entry form in WORD or PDF format to calendar@chessscotland.com and the text will appear on this page along with a download link to the entry form. We can also link from here to your website or just supply the text you would like to appear on this page.
Download Entry Forms: Entry forms in WORD format are available for some of these events, you can then print-off the relevant pages, fill them out and post to the organiser. These files are sometimes zipped. You will need WINZIP (One of the most useful little programs you can have on your computer). It is available free of charge on many cover CDs given away with computing magazines - or you can simply download an evaluation version by clicking here. RTF - (rich text files) are sometimes used in preference to WORD docs in the hope that they will be more likely to be retrospectively compatible with users of older Word versions. Some of the files appear in PDF format - to access PDF files you need Acrobat reader software. PDF in double column format can be very difficult to copy and paste - so if you also want text to appear on this advert page it would be a good idea to also submit a doc file of the entry form.
Visitors: Players from outwith Scotland are most welcome to participate in Scottish Congresses. The grading conversion BCF to CS is BCF x 8 + 600 eg a BCF grade of 100 is 1400 CS. Regular visitors will be allocated a Scottish grade based on results in Scottish events. Visitors are also eligible for the Grand Prix if they become Chess Scotland members

Lord Kirkwood has again agreed to donate three special prizes. These are:
Best Game Prize (£250). This will be decided by a panel of players from the games played in the Open.
Best Swindle Prize . Did you find a winning move in a totally lost position? Did you manage to find a stalemate plan against the odds? In either case enter your game from the Championships to be considered for this prize.
Giant Killer Prize. Open to any player who manages to overcome an opponent whose relative grade/rating is higher than their own. The prize is awarded to the winner with the greatest rating difference.
Rules: The Tournament Director reserves the right to take measures to facilitate the smooth running of all events. He may refuse entry, withdraw competitors, re-arrange events or vary the prize money for any of the events.Players should not drink alcohol within the playing arena.
Cash prizes for unrated players are at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
An Appeals Committee shall be appointed.
In the event of ties, titles and prize monies will be shared equally except in the Championship itself. The method of tie-break for the Championship will be the superior FIDE rating performance of the tied players.
Players without opponents may be re-paired after the elapse of 30 minutes. Players arriving more than 30 minutes late but within one hour will be given a half point bye if no appropriate opponent is available.
Players wishing a bye must request it on the entry form. In the unlikely event of a player asking for a bye after round 2 then it will not count towards any Championship title.
Qualification rules for the Championship can be found in the CS Rules Book and on the CS website.
Play shall be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess.
When considering eligibility for grade restricted tournaments preference will be given to UK grades, then FIDE ratings, then other national ratings.
Mobile Phones: It is forbidden for anybody to use a mobile phone in the playing venue and any area designated by the arbiter. This will include phones in silent mode.
Players whose phones go off during play will LOSE their game. The result for the opponent will be decided by the Arbiter.
Anyone who MUST have an active phone should inform the arbiter prior to the beginning of play failure to do so shall result in the player forfeiting the game.
Under the 2005 Laws players are not allowed to write down their moves prior to playing them. Normally a warning will be given for a first infringement. Repeat offenders may lose their game.
Smoking is not permitted in the building. Scottish Law prohibits smoking in an enclosed public place.
Entry to the event is deemed to be acceptance of the above conditions.
Boys' and Girls' Championship titles are awarded to the top eligible player in the International Open. Similarly, the U1500 Boys' and Girls' will be awarded in that event.
The Senior Event is Open this year but the title will be awarded only to a player satisfying nationality rules.
SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIP 2009
The 2009 Championship will be held in Edinburgh . 2009 marks the year of the Returning Scot and it is hoped that this may encourage Scots now living throughout the world to return to their roots and take part in this event.
