Chess Scotland congratulates the 2006 Scottish Champion Jonathan Grant. An impressive performance by Jonathan saw him lose only to IM Andy Muir and secure the title with a quick last round draw. This completes a unique double for the Grant family as his wife Keti Arakamia-Grant is a previous winner of the title, the first husband and wife to win!!!

Scottish Lightning Champion – Ken Stewart
The first Championship was decided on Wednesday night when 22 players took part in the Scottish Lightning.
The event was held as a 7 round Swiss with each player having 3 minutes + 3 seconds per move. The pre tournament favourite was Roddy McKay and after 3 rounds he shared the lead with Ed Spencer and Gunnar Jacob (not eligible for title). Roddy and Gunnar drew their round 4 encounter leaving Ed Spencer as sole leader. Roddy then defeated Ed in round 5 to again share the lead with Gunnar. It was to be his last in as he then lost to Ken Stewart and John McBride.
Gunnar continued his run to finish on 6.5/7 and pick up the £35 first prize. Ken, having lost to Gunnar in round 3 won all of his remaining matches to finish on 6 and take second place (£18) and the title of Scottish Lightning Champion.
The Under 1550 grading prize was shared by Jonathan McLatchie and Craig Petrie (Craig was the 3rd lowest rated player) on a very creditable 4.
