Chess Scotland is pleased to announce that a sponsor has been found for the 2009 Scottish Championships.
The sponsor is oil billionaire JR Ewing of Dallas, Texas. The venue will be Mr Ewing’s Edinburgh mansion, Eastfork.
JR himself, though very willing to play, is unlikely to compete as he is doubtful if he will be able to commute the huge distance from his bedroom to his banqueting hall where the main event will be staged.
JR, a keen chess player himself, never misses a tournament, provided it is within 3 feet of his king-sized bed, said, “I am glad to be putting something back into chess. I have found that too often people are willing to criticise without putting in any effort themselves. I would hate to be counted amongst those people.”
John Henderson could not be contacted to say anything positive or even humorous about the news – so no change there then!!
