Shettleston completed their program in division 1 by drubbing Giffnock to
record their 4th title success. Defending champions Polytechnic, having lost in
the critical match to Shettleston, and missing several key players, contrived
to make the margin of victory a clear three points by losing to a Crowwood team
that have not had the best of seasons. Glasgow Montrose, who last season were
winning their first ever matches in division 1, proved they are a force to be
reckoned with by finishing in their best ever 3rd place, and were the only team
to take any points from Shettleston this season. Cathcart recovered from the
appalling start of losing their first three games - albeit two being close
contests against the top teams - to finish in 4th place. At the end of the day,
there wasn't much between the teams in the bottom half of the table. Bearsden
continue their impression of a yo-yo between divisions 1 and 2, while Paisley -
the only team to win the championship other than Shettleston, Poly and Crowwood
since 1986 (in 1992) join them in division two, despite their result against
Cathcart, way back in October, undoubtedly division 1's shock of the season.
For the three teams above them it will be a relief to have survived another
season, especially with two B teams having gained promotion from division 2.
