Selection for Euro Club Cup
April 2008
Last year I took input from the adult selection committee and decided that Chess Scotland's two places will be decided as follows:
a) The winner of the Richardson Cup will automatically be eligible. The winning club will be given a period of time after the Richardson Cup final, which will depend on the closing date for entries to the European Club Cup, to confirm its interest.
b) If the winner decides to play then the adult selection committee will select the second place from clubs that express an interest.
c) If the winner decides not to play then the adult selection committee will select two teams from clubs that express an interest.
If you are interested be aware that the rules of the competition put restrictions on which clubs are eligible and which players are eligible for the eligible clubs. However I'm not convinced these rules are rigorously monitored or enforced.
The principles for selection to represent Chess Scotland are on the International Web Page and these principles will apply.
Rules for the competition are outlined in D. Regulations for Specific Competitions | D.V. Other Continental Club Cups and Cities Championships | D.V.01. European Club Cup and European Club Cup for Women of the FIDE handbook http://www.fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=DD501
