Dresden Olympiad
12-25 November 2008
Team Profiles: Open - Women
I am delighted to announce that Chess Scotland will be represented by its five strongest active players in each of the Open and Women's teams at the Dresden Chess Olympiad, from 12 to 25 November 2008.
The squad consists of:
Open team: Board 1. GM Jonathan Rowson; Board 2. GM Jacob Aagaard; Board 3. GM John Shaw; Board 4. WGM/IM Keti Arakhamia-Grant; and Board 5 GM Colin McNab. Team captain is John Dempsey.
Women's team: Board 1. Heather Lang; Board 2. Rosie Giulian; Board 3. Carey Wilman; Board 4. WFM Amy Officer; and Board 5 Rhian Hughes. Team captain/coach is IM Steve Mannion.
The Chess Olympiad is the most important of international chess team events with over 100 countries taking part every two years. Chess Scotland has regularly sent a team since its admission to FIDE in 1932 and has an unbroken record of participation since 1964. The Dresden organisers are expecting a record breaking Olympiad, surpassing even Turin 2006. 148 national federations have entered the open event and 114 federations have nominated teams for the women's tournament.
Full information on the event, including the regulations, can be found at http://dresden2008.de/english/ .
