Scottish Championship 1958

The 65th annual congress of the Scottish Chess Association.

Edinburgh, July 5-12. Held in the rooms of the Edinburgh CC, 1 Alva Street .

The 65th annual competiton for the Scottish Chess Championship was won yesterday at the congress in Edinburgh by Dr J.M. Aitken ( Cheltenham ), formerly of Lochgelly, with 10 points from nine wins and two draws. It was the seventh time he had won the event.

He beat N.A. Perkins in the final round in 44 moves with two extra pawns in a queens and pawns endgame. G. Dickson (Edinburgh), who had been in the lead with Aitken, could only draw against D. Munro in 43 moves, although for attacking purposes he gave up a piece for two pawns. His final score was 9½. N.A. Perkins ( London ) and M. Fallone ( Hamilton ) shared third and fourth prizes with 7½ points each.
