Scottish Championship 1912

The twenty ninth Annual Congress of the Scottish Chess Association, was held under the auspices of Edinburgh CC at Messrs. Ferguson & Forrester's, Princes Street, Edinburgh, from 5th to 10th April. Plans for the prizes to be awarded were based on eight players, but the event attracted only a small entry. [The Scotsman of Saturday, 6 April 1912 reported that restricted railway service prevented some players from travelling.] The championship was therefore played as a double-round tourney, and ended in a triple tie, necessitating a play-off.

The play-off was also held in Edinburgh, and again was a double-round affair. It resulted in a win for Gibson with 3 points from his four games, followed by Wenman on 2½ and Macdonald with ½.

Gibson had by now played in the Scottish Championship on six occasions, and this was his second win, the first being in 1907. He had also tied for first in the 1910 event, but lost the play-off to G.W. Richmond.
