Scottish Championship 1909

compiled by Alan McGowan

The twenty-sixth annual Congress of the Scottish Chess Association was held in Glasgow , from April 9 th to April 15 th .

Source: The Year Book of Chess , Edited by E.A. Michell. Published in London , 1910.

Notes:

The eighth-named player in the table was shown in the above publication as W. Wardhaugh. Suspecting a misprint, I have changed the initial to C, as Carrick Wardhaugh was well known in Scottish chess circles for many years.

J. Schotz: This may be Jeannot Schotz (later to call himself Schachno), member of the Bohemian CC, Glasgow, and brother of Benno Schotz, who also became a member of that club. Benno Schotz went on to become a sculptor of national and international renown.

“G. Dickson”: Occasionally, for whatever reason, someone wanted to conceal their true identity (it was very common with those involved with chess problem composing, particularly ministers of the church).
