Scottish Championship 1898

The event was held in the rooms of the Edinburgh Chess Club, 46 Hanover Street. The Scotsman of 9 April 1898 reported that '..the entries up to yesterday were only five...'. These were Sheriff Spens, Glasgow; Dr R.C. Macdonald, Linlithgow; R.A.S. Rankine, Edinburgh; John Comrie, Edinburgh; and G.B. Fraser, Dundee. Other entries were expected, but it is not clear if they transpired.

The championship was won by G.B. Fraser, followed by Sheriff Spens, as reported in The Scotsman of 13 April. There was no other information and no crosstable. The Glasgow Herald of April 12, 1898, also had same sparse report.
