A draw in round 4, so the sequence broken for both players.

Round 5
21 WFM Dragieva Denitza BUL 2095 2½ 2½ Roy Ali SCO 1891 49

Another draw in a rather long game. Tomorrow's game has been put back to 4pm (12 noon UK time). I have no idea why.

The official website says that delegates have asked for an extra hour to ease dining queues.

Ali lost, so she is back to 50% and it is that question over whether she will be top half or bottom half.

Ali stays on 50% with her round 7 draw against Emma Guo of Australia, rated 2092. So far Ali has been paired with 4 titled players and has scored 1.5 points against them, which isn't bad. The only two opponents to get the better of her so far have both been rated over 2100 and she's beaten anyone rated lower than her. I don't think you can ask for much more than that. Hopefully, Ali will continue this pattern tomorrow when she has the black pieces against Lithuania's Migle Lepeskaite, rated 1820. I wonder if Migle will have Sarunas Sulskis on her side.

Well done so far Ali. Good luck tomorrow and I hope you and your dad enjoy what is bound to be a Christmas Day that's a bit different from the usual. Let us know if you get snow.

The Welsh squad at the recent Liverpool Quadrangular event featured a number of girls in the various teams. One kid, Venetia Sivarajasingam who played for the under 12's and scored two points is currently sitting in 15th place, on 5 out of 7, in the under 8's at the World Youth.

Akshaya Kalaiyalahan is England's top scorer overall, at the moment. She's taking part in the under 12 girls and is on board 2 tomorrow, with a chance of moving up to board 1 if she wins.
