Matthew Turner Wrote:Quite a few changes must have come in on the morning. Ali is now 46 on the website, but 49 in the pairings. Iran are very much an emerging chess nation, so its a bit of lottery how good her opponent is.

Not sure. From Chess results -

48 Foster Chantelle L ENG 1901
49 Roy Ali SCO 1891

But Ali is 46 on the official site with a grade of 1889 and Chantelle is 50 graded 1872. I'm guessing there was a FIDE update between entry and event and organisers are using most recent grades. Ali's current rating is 1891.

Pairings now on official website under "standard". Still no sign of live games though.

Any update on the issues that are causing the delay?

ROLF,

funniest posting on the notice board for years.

25 minutes after hearing that it is absolute shambles in the UAE - can we have an update from England?

Not everyone will get the joke though. Some people think than irony is like silvery but with a different metal.

PS Andy
Are there going to be live boards at this event? Can you let me know by the end of my lunch break please?

Not sure on it being funny, we have a single player England has 24. We are more likely to hear from 24 voices than 1. Makes sense to me

As for live games, knowing the difficulties there are in doing it i have real sympathy for the team that are running it

I understand Ali was forced to sit at the board for an hour before the game started - not terribly satisfactory. A win, which I guess must have been quite short, but I don't have any details.

Lots of photos of the event, discussion and other news on twitter. If I can work out how the whole thing works. The ECF have a link on their junior page, which has opened up a whole new world to me. Folk from all over tweeting about the WYCC.

Ali is White on the official website and Black on chessresults - I assume that chessresults is correct because the official website basically lists all the seeds as having Black. One wonders what will happen next, a fire alarm perhaps =)
