I very much doubt any politics were involved and certainly not for Jonny. Any way this event is about those who are there not those that aren't. Good luck to all!

I fully agree with you Mike,
I can’t believe that there is a politically motivated Boycott
The decision on whether or not to accept a place will be taken jointly by parents and player. Experience tells me that for U18 & U16 players the player tends to make the decision. For U12 and down it tends to be the parents.

Furthermore I do not know of any junior that has been actively discouraged from taking part. Certainly not at the Hamilton Club

Official website is http://www.glorneycupchess.org/ which gives links to live games. Looks like both the Glorney and Gilbert (Faber) games are going to be on live.

2 games today. First at 12.00pm and the second at 5.00pm.

Scotland v England. Our names are not up, but I from memory Adam Taylor v Declan, Nettleson v Alex Bond.

Hopefully they will fix the names

Are the Gilbert team under instructions not to resign no matter how much they are behind on material?

No instructions, but bear in mind that a 2300 can do this to themself (move 36):

Every member of the squad is putting in the effort and trying their best at the board. Despite a tough start against England where points were hard to come by, the squad started picking up a few good points in round 2. The under 12's drew 3-3 with the Welsh. Euan Gray and Ben Volland winning and Euan Dawson and Callum Smith drawing.

Although we have four teams playing, the kids are united as one big squad, looking out for each other, helping each other and working together. At one end of the spectrum Ali Roy is leading by example and at the other end of the age divide Euan Gray is also making sure his teamates are okay and are enjoying the event, while posting two wins on the top board.

In the under 14's Leston D'Costa also has a 100% record.

Our Gilbert team are learning fast and although they are all inexperienced at this level, are showing signs in he post-match analysis that they all have potential. Heather Lang has been working with all the girls today not just on the games they have played and are about to play but with a view to the longer term, with advice and ideas for improving their game when the tournament is over.

The tireless efforts of Heather and Matthew Turner, who has also been fantastic with our players as usual, is greatly appreciated and will undoubtedly help the squad members in both the immediate future and the longer term.

It is going to be another tough two days but everyone in the squad is stepping up for the challenge. It might be a team that's a bit raw and inexperienced, with a good number of them playing up the boards but it's also a team with heart, courage and just a little bit of fearlessness.

Good win this morning for Daniel and a draw for Lenart, both against higher draded opponents.

In the Gilbert Caitlin has had an excellent day, beating a 1683 in the morning, and drawing with an 1852 this afternoon. Well done.
