George,

Sadly she lost today and like you, I really want to see the finale. Perhaps Calum, her coach can fill in the missing bits for us when he has them? I have been telling everyone for the past year that this girl has a very solid game, needs to be more aggressive but has a weakish endgame. I rate her very highly and see steady but certain improvement every time I look at her games. She is not flashy or spectacular but has a lovely demeanour and attitude coupled with a real determination to succeed. A fantastic girl to have in your squad,

Robin.

I just refreshed the results for SCO on the official website and it appears that Anna lost, which is a real shame as she had her chances there (Mike's earlier comment was very true) and played out of the opening really well. I followed her game with Rybka's assistance and Bf5 was the move the computer wanted after some crunching. A pity we never got to see the endgame played out.

Hopefully we'll get more live board action tomorrow - luck to all!

I see Andrew has an interesting opponent tomorrow. A 2500 plus number 1 seed! The standard here is truly awesome.

Can someone post the results. Not able to get on the site from here. Sounds like we have had a really good day 1!

Sorry Robin, I'd love to be there doing the boards

Andy,

We haven't strictly had a good day points wise but were outgraded by miles on every board. Murad won and Ali drew. Everyone else lost but by what we saw in the live games and the length of time it took for our results to be published, I would suggest we put up some very good performances. Hopefully Hugh can give us a better update,

Robin.

Sorry to hear about Anna; but well done to Ali.

I certainly can! Some excellent performances today - both Murad and Ali did superbly to get the results they did, but a lot of people put in some very good work at the board and weren't quite rewarded for it. Morale's still high and I'd be astonished if tomorrow didn't see us get a lot more points on the board. As has been said, the first day's always a tough one.

Delighted to see the amount of support we're getting on this board! Keep it up - I'll tell the kids they're responsible for a significant drop in Scotland's workday productivity...

Internet situation appears to be better, so I'd be very surprised if I wasn't able to update you guys at least once a day from hereon in.

Anna is a cracking wee player for sure, as are the rest of the gang out there. Round 1 is always a rough one when you're in the bottom half of the draw, results usually pick up. Not got the rest of Anna's game.

Good luck especially to Andrew tomorrow, this is what it's all about! Reckon Murad will make the live boards.

What amazes me about Andrew's opponent is at 2536 he is an FM! I assume it is just top 10 boards of each section live, or do you know if they plan to expand on that?

As you know, I no longer have any.

One thing I noticed from last year that I have mentioned earlier is that the older players know where they stand and what's required at this level of event. The younger players tend to need three or four rounds before they realise where they are. Do we need to have a different strategy for younger players taking on a massive event like this? The younger players we have out there are the best we have and they will score points as the tournament progresses, I guarantee it, but should we have a different dedicated preparation route for them? Last year Alan and I were becoming more confident in every round of the squads ability, simply by socialising and working together as a group. I would love to be in a position financially to say to everyone,
"hey guys, we are all going to an outward bound location for a few days.. a week or so before major events" We are going to do some canoeing, rock climbing, orienteering etc and at night we are going to play some chess and talk about the event ahead. Is this realistic? We are restricted by budget obviously,

Robin.
