20191 International events
#1
With 2019 rapidly approaching, anyone who is interested in playing any of the following events please contact me. Some of the events aren't that far away, others a bit distant, but I will start to compile 'interested lists' and begin group emails at some point over the next month or so.

Some of these require selection, others simply CS membership, but please advise me if you enter any of the individual events.

Any questions or anyone who requires help or further information, please don't hesitate to contact me via abburnett (at) hotmail.com

Kind regards,
Andy Burnett

(CS International Director)

A couple of important changes to the list above...new dates and venues are...

15-Apr-2019

World Senior Team Championships 50+ & 65+

and also the...

European Amateur Chess Championship 2019
Rhodes, Greece
5-Apr-2019
15-Apr-2019

As far as the senior events go, this means that anyone wanting to play both European Individual seniors and the World Team seniors is looking at a 20-day+ stretch in Rhodes :/

...and have just had a quick FB reply about the changes from the organiser Nikos Kalesis...

Q: Hi Nikos, These dates and venues are changed from just last week on the FIDE website Nikos :/ and now Euro Individual and World Team are back-to-back, one ending and the next starting on the same day?'

A: 'It was a long discussion between FIDE, ECU and the organizers of the other senior events. It looks like finally this was the best solution with the dates. One point is that senior players can participate in 2 senior events with one air ticket (there is a free day with an excursion provided by the organizers between the 2 events)'

20191??

The participants would really have to be Senior, and then some.

Big Grin I did spot the typo Andy, but apparently editing titles isn't possible? :/

Very disappointed with the changes, Andy. Not your fault I know.

Missed out on Bled (other commitments), but..

Was looking forward to WSTCC in Crete as I missed out last time and always wanted to go there. My wife was keen to come too, as camp follower/tourist. I know others were keen to go, too. Ok so it's now in Rhodes but at a less convenient time (Easter for us but not for them!). And we've been there before (Euro Club Cup) and not entirely sure I want to go again. Will await further details of that one. Certainly won't be going for two consecutive tournaments (will anyone I wonder?). Keen but not that keen! And definitely can't go to Croatia in September for ESTCC as it clashes with other things.

So not good timings for me but will keep you informed.

As Alastair mentions, and Ian Aird has also pointed out to me today, another date/location change from last week (and my OP above)...

European Senior Team Chess Championship 2019
Mali Losinj
Croatia
17-Sep – 2019
26-Sep – 2019

The changes are not only annoying for those who had provisional plans for various events, but the back-to-back Rhodes events will likely see a drop in numbers overall, as well as from CS.

It is what it is though and I wouldn't be surprised by a few more changes over the coming weeks to the FIDE calendar. I'll keep this thread updated as best I can, but anyone planning to play something from the FIDE list please double-check dates and locations.

(For info Russian Orthodox celebrate Christmas on 7th January).
