Well done to the team, they finished above there graded position, with some good individual scares.
Same old nonsense in comments about being unlucky etc or that players will have learnt alot. Every year we consistently see our players be competitive and being 'unlucky' in loosing close fought games. The reality is our players are no different from those from other countries other than they lack of an established system for taking beginners through to established players in a structured manner. We seem to think that it is sufficient to send them to the top junior events. Sure money is a an issue but it is not everything.
As I have said previously Scottish swimming are very successful thanks to plenty of money and the versy competitive trainging regime and competitions. This is not for chess but its worth understanding and adapting to chess.

Just to throw in something which I learned recently over here in the Czech Republic.
Coaching here is taken very seriously and there are few, if any, talented juniors without a GM coach. And if the young player hits a certain rating for their age group, the national federation pays them money. In the one instance I know of in detail, it equates to pretty much a year's worth of GM coaching over here.
I can't see that being a realistic option in Scotland in the short-term, but perhaps a scholarship fund could be set up for talented juniors - say 1 or 2 per year - allowing them to access top-quality coaching.
It would create a target and a competitive atmosphere among our top young players - alternatively it could be used to fund a week-long training camp in the summer/easter/October holidays? Just a thought.

I'm not surprised - have you looked at the costs involved?
It is played over 15 nights
Double room 975 euro/night = 14,625 euro
Single room 1350 euro/night = 20,250 euro
Add in Fees, Flights(Edinburgh - London - and transfers that is a LOT of money for anyone.

It clashes with the EuroYouth - so I suppose there are no obvious candidates to send.
We didn't have the EuroYouth in my days.
These summer clashes seem to be the number one headache for any IJD in the future. Who the heck could cope with all this planning ?
In July/August next year we will have Scottish/Glorney/U-16 Olympiad/British/EuroYouth/World Junior.
All with different age limits !
The sooner we get the dates/venues/finances sorted for this lot the better.
