Glorney Teams
#1
I've just seen the selections for the Glorney and associated events. We've got some good players there, and I think they'll do well.

One thing puzzles me, though: the U14 and U12 events are for teams of six - so why have we got seven players named for each event? I am assuming that substitutes and changes to board order are not allowed once play has started - is the seventh player just a reserve in case anyone has to pull out?

How old is Murad ? is he the youngest ever player/board 1 in Glorney?

Donald,
My recollection from the last time I read the Glorney rules is that no substitutions are allowed. That will still be the case unless a change was agreed at the pre tournament meeting of the 4 competing nations in 2012 or 2013.

Your question also applies of course to the Glorney team - which is played over 5 boards.

The "Rules of the Glorney Cup and Gilbert Cup International Chess Tournaments" specify rules for both these events but do not mention the under 14 and under 12 events, the Robinson and Stokes Cups. I'm not aware of any specific rules for the two younger tournaments.

Five players have been named in Scotland's Glorney Cup team.

You're right David - only 5 players named for the Glorney.

I made a mistake.

Hi all,

Firstly let me say I think we've got a pretty solid team out there. Here's hoping we can take home a tournament or two.

Secondly, I had the same thoughts as David, Glorney and Faber no subs but the others were OK. I like bringing subs to these events, it gives juniors a chance to play for their country. When players aren't playing they'll have time with one of the coaches we're bringing to the event.

So there are no rules to say that subs are allowed?

Would it not be reasonable to assume that in the absence of any specific rules that the Glorney/Gilbert rules would apply?

Has this been clarified/agreed with the other nations? What we don't want is someone to turn up and not get a game because of a misunderstanding.

This has been agreed with the other nations for the Robinson and Stokes.

I think it's a great that there is enthusiasm for the Glorney this year.. but honestly to be asked for donations every time we log on to the site for the last month is too much. Does it really have to keep popping up to the top of the screen? The world seniors was just on if anybody noticed.

(Also the Commonwealth finished some time ago. Thank you to the busy webmaster Wink )
