Giant Killers 2020/21
#1
Hi,

Given the fact that it seems OTB chess will not be taking place at all during the 2020/21 season, what will be happening with the Giant Killers trophy this season? I looked to see the list but there is nothing despite the fact we have been playing online tournaments for months.

The Giant Killers trophy is for the regular play events.
Extract from the Cup Criteria:

Only graded players J17 and younger will be included.
The player's published start season grade will be compared to the published start season grade of the opponent (no additions, 200 up or estimates used). Only main list wins will be considered - no allegro.

Also the problem with online grades is that they are too varied on different time controls and thats before we consider which online platform we would use. Jim is also correct that only cs standard grades should be used. Most CS trophies are on hold at the moment. Maybe we could set up such a prize ( not Robert Rough) for online games but it would require parameters , such as which engine, who would be monitoring it , how are the games assessed, what procedures including date and time parameters, and a set of rules set up, as well as checking all games for fair play. It is a heck of a lot of work for one person to supervise
