Will Scotland be free to enter multiple teams - so a bit like Turkey for the Olympiads - have say an U-20 team as well as the senior team?

There will be one male and female place per country free. Hopefully the same for the junior events.
Otherwise the event will be open to all on payment of the entry fee.

The following extracts from the 2012 Commonwealth Open Chess Championships regulations suggest there could be multiple categories. If the Scottish is to be incorporated into the bargain, would this mean that potential entrants could choose between the Open Commonwealth and the Scottish? Given the huge public response to the Olympics and Paralympics this summer past, there could be a swell of interest/support from Britons at large to participate in the 'Commonwealth' - just for the 'glamour' of having their names appear in the historical record. 'I was there.' Family pride and all that kind of thing. A bit speculative, I know...

Glasgow to host chess champions

IT is being billed as Glasgow's other Commonwealth Games.
As many as 100 competitors will gather in the city in July 2014, just weeks ahead of the main event, when Glasgow hosts its first-ever Commonwealth Chess Championships.
The city saw off competition from India and England to stage the event, which has run since the 1950s.
In recent years it has been held in Singapore, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong and South Africa, with India the most frequent host.
Organisers hope to attract UK legend Nigel Short, who became a grandmaster in 1984 after taking on Garry Kasparov. Scotland's Jonathan Rowson, also The Herald's chess columnist, is expected to be a contender.
