Re: World Seniors - David G Congalton - 06-09-2012

I am assisting the International Director and the players taking part in the World Senior Championships by collating the registration of Scotland's representatives. At the moment we have four confirmed entrants and one possible. The deadline for player registraion is the 1st October. Anyone wishing to enter and go through Chess Scotland to register for the event can contact me by e-mail. My e-mail address can be found here <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.chessscotland.com/membership/tblcontactsCS.htm">http://www.chessscotland.com/membership ... actsCS.htm</a><!-- m --> or here <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.chessscotland.com/membership/CoachList.htm">http://www.chessscotland.com/membership/CoachList.htm</a><!-- m -->

The confirmed participants so far are IM Craig Pritchett, FM Philip Giulian, Alan Borwell and Douglas McKerracher.

Re: World Seniors - David G Congalton - 10-11-2012

Scotland has four representatives in this tournament, with the first round starting on Tuesday, in what looks like a fantastic venue.

Our players are IM Craig Pritchett, FM Philip Giulian, Alastair White and Alan Borwell.

Re: World Seniors - Alastair White - 10-11-2012

Off to Greece tomorrow. There are currently 108 entrants from 38 different countries. Top seed is Anatoly Vaisser (FRA) and other GMs include Rashkovsky, Balashov, Vasyukov, and Pushkov, (all RUS), Shveshnikov (LAT), Timoshenko (SVK) and Jansa (CZE). Craig is seeded 17th, Phil 26th, Alastair 51st and Alan 60th.

Scotland, with 4 competitors, is one of the best represented federations! Sadly no English (or Welsh) players have entered.

Re: World Seniors - Alastair White - 13-11-2012

Craig Won, Philip drew (I think), I won, and Alan is battling hard with the Black pieces against his highly-rated Russian IM opponent on the live boards.

Re: World Seniors - J DURNO - 14-11-2012

Well done to Scotland in round 1!
Bad luck to Alan - after a well fought long battle vs the 2459, the position looked on course for a draw - looks as though it might have been time trouble in the last 10 or so moves.

Re: World Seniors - Alastair White - 15-11-2012

In fact both players were in time trouble for the last 30 moves in Alan's first round game.

Craig won again yesterday and will be on the live boards today. Alan had a good win too but plays another Russian IM today. I was beating the Danish No.2 (FM Bent Sorensen) for much of the game but made some tired moves and eventually lost. Philip drew again. So Craig is on 2/2 and the rest of us 1/2.
