Disclaimer: it's come to light over the last week that some people think that we are part of or associated with Chess Scotland Junior Internationals. We need to make it clear our only association is that Chess Scotland & their Grader, kindly process the grading of our events after Michael has processed the results.
We need to clear up this confusion due to some of you receiving invites to attend International events with Chess Scotland & been coming to us with your questions/queries.
So no we don't know who the chaperones are & yes we would have announced in advance. No we don't know what the travel options are or costings of them or which of them the chaperones will be travelling. No we don't know what meals are available at the venue or nearby & the costings of those. What we do know is that you will have to fund in full your travel, accommodation, meals, also pay £40 towards the cost of Chess Scotland providing chaperones & coaches & you must become a member of CS as it's an International event it is a FIDE grading requirement.

Whilst not agreeing that every CS Junior event is a shambles, I can definitely associate with the sense of disappointment which comes across in the statement.
This year has seen a failed attempt at organising the Primary Schools Team Championship (attracting a grand total of 2 teams). There has subsequently been no action on this and the event has presumably fallen for this year (poor by any standards if not shambolic)
The Primary Individual has the appearance of being flung together at the very last minute. The date for it falls after many Schools in the West of Scotland have finished for the Holidays and I know of at least a couple of kids who have been denied the chance to play because they are away on vacation.
I sincerely hope that the person/people responsible for these events are sharing the disappointment felt.

If SJC are so unhappy or so disappointed with CS why do they associate with CS? Given they are financially independent and appear to have a strong organisational structure there would be no loss to them to be totally independent.

Indeed. Would someone be kind enough to explain why ChessScotland's members subscriptions are being used to support a database system to grade SJC events for free, an organisation that is not affiliated to ChessScotland and is in fact openly hostile to them.
ChessScotland is not a charity. If we were a business we would be bankrupt if this was normal practice.

Junior events have always been graded free of charge regardless of who organises them. The Junior board have been tasked with this very thing, should unaffiliated organisations have to pay grading fees. This was as at the suggestion of the introduction of grading fees for junior events last year.
You can't bankrupt a company for something it has never charged for but you do raise an interesting point and it is one I hope the JB will report back on.

Every company that incurs costs while providing a free service to clients will become bankrupt.
