12th Oban Chess Congress

November 25-27
by Iain Macdonald

The ice and snow that affected certain parts of the country on the Thursday night prior to this year's Oban Congress would have deterred a lot of people from travelling; not so those intrepid chess players determined to attend this popular event. Although there were a few call-offs, all who made the effort managed to get to Oban with very little difficulty. Their reward was the warm and cosy atmosphere of the Royal Hotel and a weekend of hectic chess activity.

The Congress Committee would like to thank all who attended and made the event a success once again. Also to be thanked are the numerous local businesses who supported the event. Without their sponsorship it couldn't have taken place.

It is hoped that next year's event will take place on the weekend of Friday 24 to Sunday 26 November 2006. This will be confirmed early in the New Year.
