Glenrothes Junior Congress
by Stuart Blyth

For the first time in a number of years, Glenrothes Chess Congress staged a school chess event. Around thirty children took part – the split being about two thirds local and the remainder from outside of Fife . Given that the event was organised at a relatively late date and was not too widely publicised, we felt this represented a pretty decent turnout.
Craig Petrie was the strongest player taking part and, true to form, won the high school section with a perfect 5/5. Hayley Donohue, Kevin Stirling and Ryan Dick all fought hard to take joint second with 4/5.
In the P6/7 section, three players finished on 3/5, with Robert Hay and Dean Osbourne just losing out to Sarat Roy on a tie break.

Sam Turner Blyth took first place in the P5 and under on 3½/5, closely followed on 3/5 by Zak Roy, Ian McLaughlan and Kiron Roy. Thanks to Donna for running things so smoothly.
