Smith and Williamson British Chess Championships

Swansea 2006

This was a great year for the Scots.  Jonathan Rowson won the Championship for the third year running!!  Keti Arakhamia-Grant came second and won the Ladies’title.  Calum MacQueen became the British U15 champion and Connor Woods won the U14 title.  Lynsey Shovlin came 1st= in the U100 (U1400) section.  Steve Wright and Ali Roy came 1st and 2nd respectively in the Yates weekender and we had many other good results!!

This event is always a social highlight for junior players and many friendships are forged along the way.  It’s always brilliantly run and this year Alex MacFarlane did a wonderful job as chief arbiter ably assisted by Lara Barnes and the rest of the arbiting team.

Here’s a picture story of the highlights.  (The photos are by a variety of people – thanks to all!!)

Definitely one of the highlights of the events was Andrew’s um…interesting sense of fashion.

During the tournament it was my sister, Claire’s 16th birthday.  Her beach party will be remembered for a very long time!
