Perth and Kinross Chess Festival

Primary Section

On Sunday 28th January 2007 I went to a chess tournament in the Station Hotel, Perth.  As it was my first tournament I didn’t really know what to do.

I went over to Mrs. Officer who ticked me off on the register.  When someone puts the playing list on the wall you have to look at your name and figure out if you are playing white or black.  The list also tells you what board you are playing at.

I did not know anybody I was playing against but they were all very friendly.  Most of the children were about my age.  I was a little bit nervous when I played my first game.  I had to keep watching the clock and stop it each time I made a move.  After we played we had a break until the next list was put up.  We had our lunch after the 4th game.  There were 8 games altogether and by the time we went home we were tired and hungry.

As it was my first tournament I had not expected to do very well but I was pleased to get two draws.  I was given a certificate which said “This is to certify that Rebecca Brown took part in the Perth and Kinross Chess Festival.”

I had lots of fun, so I would like to go to another tournament.  Next time I would like to win more points.
