Perth & Kinross Chess Congress

13 – 15 January 2006

Interrogation of Daniel Thomas, age 9, Giffnock Club, p num 15990.

Daniel, which section did you enter?

The Primary on the Saturday & Funday Open on the Sunday

Which section did you prefer & why?

I liked the Primary best as I came equal 1st

So why did you enter the Funday?

I wanted to play higher graded people because in the Primary, I had one of the highest grades.  Also my brother Matthew was playing on the Sunday in the Primary & he wanted to avoid playing me.

This is me receiving my 1st prize                               Matthew came 2nd in the Sunday Primary

Did you do well in the Funday & get any good wins?

I got 2.5 / 6.  I got a draw against my Mum which she was not too happy about due to the grade difference but I did turn her down when she offered a draw as I thought I could win but in the end it was a simple draw with a piece & pawn each. I beat Alice Lampard’s Dad who has a grade over a 1000.

Do you think that the sections were run well & did you like the venue?

I think it was run well.  I like coming to this congress because I like staying in the hotel & playing in the big rooms & seeing my chess friends.

You say you like the hotel, what is it you like about it apart from the big rooms & seeing your friends?

I like sleeping & eating there as the food is tasty & we get nice rooms.

Would you like to go again next year?

Yes, definitely as I want to win another special trophy as we have the Knight, Bishop & Rook already.
